Wireless order has become one key symbol of restaurants, so more and more restaurants use the advanced wireless order. This thesis mainly discusses the design and realization of the software and hardware of the special wireless handheld unit, which can order dishes by using wireless handheld unit. Three kind of advanced techniques are used in this subject: the design of board based on ARM7 architecture and the μCLinux porting, 2.4GHz RF wireless communication and the embedded database-sqlite porting.First, this thesis introduces the physical disposal and the operating flow, analyses the development of computerised order management system by wireless handheld unit and gives the reason for this subject. Then this thesis analyses the development of embedded system. The hardware designation is composed of the embedded MPU based on ARM7 architecture, the USB controller with Host/Slave dual models and the 2.4GHz RF wireless communication processor — nRF24El. The software design is mainly study the theory, function and realization of the μCLinux porting, the embedded database—sqlite porting and the use of Microwindows. The key techniques of this thesis are hardware design and software porting of wireless handheld unit and the realization of wireless communication. This thesis introduce every main controller's characteristic and application according to its function on the side of hardware; on the side of software, this thesis introduce the embedded software porting, and then introduce the wireless communication's protocol and its operation flow, at last, introduce the realization of this key technique how to communicate between wireless handheld unit and the PC software.
