UPnP is an open protocol architecture for network control, which based on TCP/IP, XML and some other general protocol that has been accepted widely. Its basic design principle is resource sharing, good compatibility, transparent and easy to use. UPnP technology divides the hardware in the network into control point and controlled device; both of them should follow of UPnP protocol and can be used in the network without any configurature.Control network based on UPnP technology indicates control point and controlled device by IP address allocated by system. UPnP hardware connects with network by embedded network chip and communicates with each other though TCP/IP protocol. Compared with traditional control network with serial interface or infrared interface, UPnP network is not restricted by quantity of interface. Furthermore, telecontrol can be realized with a control point in the internet.Combines with the actual conditions, the article has carried on the expansion at a certain extent to UPnP on the basis of analyzing characteristics of UPnP technology in detail. The aim of the design is to expand the scale of control network by the means of cascade control and lay a foundation for realizing telecontrol. In view of easy to use is one of the original design intentions of UPnP, the way of cascade control is designed to be transparent to final users.The project is divided into two stages. In the first stage, a simple simulation UPnP control is realized, the control network was improved in the second stage.Firstly, the paper introduces the development uptrend and disadvantages of popular network control system, and expounds the advantages and prospect of applying UPnP technology to the network control; then, the realizing process and protocols, which correlated with UPnP was analyzed in detail. Taking a simple audio device as an example, the paper provides the information form of the communication and device describe files. After that, based on controlling UPnP audio device in a single network, the author designs the basic UPnP network structure. The part of network control was divided into several mainly models and four models were designed in detail. The control points were given the abilities of controlled devices in the design. Furthermore, control points can transmit commands and messages between different local area network, so that cascade control was realized.Finally, based on above-mentioned theories, the UPnP network control system was realized on embedded operation system WinCE by development tools EVC and WinCE simulator.
