With the development of computer technology, communication technology and the in-depth application of the Internet, embedded systems are widely applied to many fields including science research, engineering design, military technology, industry and commerce. With the further exploitation and spread of the domestic embedded products, more and more embedded systems are running around us. An embedded system can be defined as a control system or computer system designed to perform a specific task. An embedded system can also be defined as a single purpose computer centered as application and based on computer science technology. The most difference between an embedded system and a general computer platform is that the the former must support the cutting of hardware and software to meet the special requirements of the applying system for embedded system's volume, function, reliability, cost and so on. Because of the increasing complexity of the embedded system, the embedded system has become the most important part of the embedded system. In all kinds of embedded operating systems, Linux has the advantage of clear structure and open source, so it has been widely used in embedded system based on monitoring system and PDA. With the development of the domestic embedded applying fields, ARM must be widely recognized and applied. Because its core has many outstanding advantages, such as low consume, low cost and so on, more and more semiconductor businessmen and computer businessmen give their big support. Based on the outstanding advantages of the introduced operate system and hardware platform above, it is certain that the embedded system is realized by ARM-Linux. This thesis mainly discusses how to prot Linux to arm platform according to different applications. At first, a summarization about embeded operating system is given and the thesis thoroughly analyzes the characteristic of the embedded Linux. Then the FFT-RM9200 platform is introduced. After that, the process of porting Linux to the FFT-RM9200 is discussed, including building the cross complier, writing the starting code, modifying and configuring of the kernel and realizing the root system. Then the problem that I met in the porting are given.
