In this paper, the fundamental theory and trend of the development of the optical information processing and the wavelet transform in full-scale. The advantages of optical information processing are analyzed, and the inevitability of optical wavelet transform, which combines optical information processing and wavelet transform, is researched. In chapter four, in order to analyze the error of the optical system, the reason and emendation of the aberration and system error of optical system are analyzed in detail, such as spherical aberration, distortion, astigmatism, etc.. Present fast wavelet transform algorithms in electrology, such as Mallat algorithm, FFT-based algorithm, Short-length FIR-based algorithm and Lifting-scheme algorithm, which is the second-generation wavelet, were analyzed. And the computation complexity of these fast algorithms is also analyzed and compared. Due to the difficult of hardware implementation of each algorithm, the fastest wavelet transform is put forward. The requirement of the mother wavelet was researched when wavelet transform is implemented in optical way, including the basic and special need of 2-D WT (wavelet transform); and the precision needed by optical wavelet filter in image compression system is introduced according to human vision speciality (HVS), which provides the theory basis and measure of the system. A feasible experiment scheme for measuring the optical system error and the relationshipbetween them were provided according to the need of this project. Because light has the advantages of speediness and good-parallel processing, optical image processing becomes a hot issue. But the precision of the optical system is a main obstacle for image data compression application. The goal of our experiments is to measure the error of the selected system, and verify whether it satisfies the need of image compression and whether the error is within the range of the error limitation.
