Ultrasonic testing (UT) is one of practical methods of non-destructive testing (NDT), which uses ultrasonic propagated by transducer to test or measure workpieces. Comparing with other testing methods, UT has many advantages such as wide-range testing objects, accurately orientation, high delicacy, low cost, harmlessness to bodies, etc. UT is a NDT technology which is used most widely and develops very fast.As the ultrasonic acoustic field influences directly results of the UT, it is very important to understand the configuration and distributing of the acoustic field. So the research of the attributes, distributing and configuration of the acoustic field becomes the important domain of the UT.Visualization in scientific computing (VISC) is the new application of computer graphics technology. It converts the invisible data such as complicated calculations and formulas into the visible graphics and images, riches the process of scientific research, and supplies a powerful tool for scientists and engineers.To better represent and study acoustic field, we employ the VISC technology in the simulation of acoustic field. A set of computer simulation system is developed using some VISC tools, such as OpenGL. This system uses some VISC methods such as color models, transparence technology, to depict ultrasonic field with visual graphics. And users can control the graphics with mouse actions conveniently, to move or rotate the models, observing the models in different points of view.Especially, we propose to simulate the distributing of acoustic field with isosurface extraction based MC algorithm. Firstly, to set up the models of ultrasonic field by the acoustic theory; secondly, to calculate data of acoustic field distributing; thirdly, to extract and render the isosurface of given field data for the purpose of represent acoustic field.The point and method proposed in this paper brings a proof and foundation for simulation investigation of acoustic field, and exploits another application domain of visualization technology.
