3D data sets visualization is a multi-disciplinary subject. It relates to the subjects of digital image processing, computer graphics and some related knowledge of medical. 3D reconstruction and visualization of medical images are widely used in diagnostic, surgery planning and simulating, plastic and artificial limb surgery, and teaching in anatomy. Also, the generic reconstruction method can be used in reverse engineering to build the CAD model from a set of industry computed tomography(ICT) images. So, study on the 3D regular data set visualization has important significance on science and worthiness in practical application.The main research contents of 3D data sets visualization include image pre-processing, such as interpolating and filtering, segmenting; 3D model construction; simplifying the meshes of the models; model incision.The key technology of generic 3D regular data sets visualization is des-cussed in this paper. We have developed a 3D data sets visualization system -VolView- using Marching Cubes and Direct Volume Rendering method. The VolView's stable version can works under Linux and Windows now.
