Volume visualization focuses on problems of the structure, the transformation, the operation and the visualization of volume data. The purpose of volume visualization is to present complex findings in a format easUy understood without prior specialized training and experience. Display is one of those keys of this technology.Based on the prior volume visualization system, this paper put more emphasis on the improvement of the algorithms of volume data visualization. This paper describes the methods and techniques used for volume visualization and includes a step-by-step description of the process used to display 3D images. The acquisition, preprocessing and formation of volume data are also discussed in brief in the first part. In the second part, three kinds of algorithms of volume data visualization( 3D Shape from 2D Contours based on OpenGL.. Marching Cubes based on OpenGL and Direct Volume Rendering in Image Space) are discussed in detail, including the results and some ideas and experiences. And a new method to estimate the normal vector of the surface in Direct Voltime Rendering in Image Space is introduced.
