Functional Analysis On Three Sub-styles Of News

News in newspapers contains three main sub-styles: news report, editorial, feature, which have different functions and subject to different readers. Fifteen news articles are chosen from China Daily in this thesis as analytical samples. Applying an analytic tool of functional grammar, I attempt to identify different linguistic features of the three sub-styles, and to elaborate on the common feature and difference in linguistic choices, explain why these features are used and clarify and multifunctions of Systemic Functional Grammar on Discourse analysis.
