Coming into 21 century, with the high-speed increasing of Chinese air traffic, More and more automatic systems of ATM have been installed and played a very important role in the Chinese air transportation. But it doesn't meet all the requirements of civil air transport by immoderate importing foreign ATM products any more, especially under some important key situation. So it's crucial to developing our own ATM System with independent intellectual property. This thesis is based on the work and projects that I've attended when I was a internship in WiseSoft Ltd. from July 2003 to February 2005. This thesis mainly introduces the necessity and function request of monitoring sub-system of ATM, the modular research and design, the distributed management, the remote monitor interface and so on. An economical practicable solution with good performance has been put forward in this thesis after a detail analysis about the new point and new request and a compares between the monitor technologies. And this solution provided a credible technical base for automatic monitor of ATM. For such a mission important system like ATM, security and reliability are the basically requests. A detail strict system monitoring is needed to achieve this goal. This thesis gave a particular analysis on the system requests, compared several monitor theories and brought out a good distributed monitoring structure which is composed by monitor agent and center management station. This Real-time structure could report the running state of the whole system, processes, hardware and could pre-alarm, alarm, deal some system emergency in time to avoid the happening of disaster. This thesis introduced the design and structure of this solution and gave a emphasis on the key component and center management station which also is the core of the writer'work. The key technology of this solution is simple network management protocol (SNMP). This protocol has been used more and more in the field of networks management. This thesis described the theory and structure of SNMP and used it to meet the distributed monitoring requests. Among such content, two points had been discussed mostly. One is the theory, model and means to use SNMP to achieve network flow monitor. The other is the whole ways to use the supplementary protocol SMUX to provide remote monitor interface including reporting of processes and hardware's running state and error trap. These things provided a technical base for remote monitor of ATM system. The research results presented above had been applied in two important ATM projects which the writer attended and satisfied the monitor request. Though it's done for special ATM project, but the design was widely applicable for common software and hardware monitor and could be used in many mission important system. This ATM system has independent intellectual property and makes up the blank of civil ATM products. This system had been authenticated by ATM experts. It will arm a lot of airports, which will greatly guarantee automatization construct of national air transportation.
