The image processing technology is a new application field; it has developed gradually with the development of the computer technology, electronic technology and communication technology. The application of multimedia and network technology and the sustaining modification of mathematics theory also have some effect on it. The image compression technology is one of the important technologies in the image processing technology. It has direct affect on the image storage and transmission. The academic foundation of image compression is information theory. People had put forward manifold image compression methods, but it is a key problem people always concentrate on that how can find a better method to realize more compress ratio and more high quality image.The wavelet transform is a new time-frequency signal analysis tool. It conquered limitation and shortage that traditional Fourier transform had. The wavelet transform provided well time-frequency localize characteristic and pick-up image character ability. It can realized emerge gradually and multi-code ratio transmission function according to the people's eye. At present, wavelet transform had acquired a great deal of harvest in scientific research and application, it has already been applied in signal analysis, speech synthesis, image identifies, computer vision, date compression, earthquake reconnaissance, weather analysis, etc.The wavelet transform is realized by transform function. Now, it has many wavelet function, one of it is Daubechies9/7 wavelet. Daubechies9/7 wavelet has orthonormal character, time-frequency compactly supported character, high regularity character and can realized by Mallat quick arithmetic, etc. Because of these, daubechies9/7 wavelet became one of the popular applied wavelet functions in the black and white still-hold image compression. JPEG2000 still image compression new standard is to use this wavelet instead of traditional cosine orthonormal function.This paper introduced an image compression method that based onDaubechies9/7 biothogonal wavelet function. In the compression of image, we make the best of the well performance of Daubechies9/7 biothogonal wavelet, combined limen quantity, equal quantity, and used Huffman coding to realized the highly quality image compression. According to the compare with other Daubechies wavelet function, we can conclude that the Daubechies9/7 wavelet has excellent effect and unexampled superiority in still image transform. It has become one of the most important tool and instrument in image compression.
