The development of embedded system, Internet, telecommunication and their related technologies has brought profound influences and great changes to almost every corner of human society. In particular, eLearning has tended to be more and more popular in recent years. How to improve learning flexibility and efficiency and break the constraints of time and space have become very important issues in the research and development of eLearning. Therefore, mobile learning, with wireless telecommunication technology as the transmission media and portable device as the terminal on the user's end, is one of the key instruments in constructing a flexible and open learning environment. However, connectionless services is still a major form of information providing in mobile learning now. Because it uses non-exclusive device as the user's terminal, it places a rather big obstacle for the further development of mobile learning.This paper, on the basis of the current state of eLearning research and development, analyzed major issues of research and solution in mobile learning, and tackled some flaws in system flexibility, broadband and the applicability of user's terminal of existing architecture. Furthermore, it proposed a Connection-Oriented mobile learning system architecture based on embedded wireless multimedia technology in the research to satisfy some basic requirements of the Sample Engineering Project of Online Education Platform Construction of China. This platform can be divided into data server, control server, and mobile learning terminal, in which data server works on the processing and online transmission of stream multimedia data such as video and static picture, control server authorizes and identifies the Id of users such as teachers and students and administrates teaching affairs, and mobile learning terminal is the mobile device that enables the user to use and receive stream multimedia data.Based on INTEL PXA255 processor and Linux operating system, this dissertation implemented a Connection-Oriented mobile learning system and explained the process of system design and implementation in terms of both software and hardware. It analyzed and designed the software construction of mobile learning system and probed into the implementation of some key technology of the wireless multimedia online teaching function. It also completed the encoding and decoding of multimedia data with MPEG-4/AMR/JPEG based on IPP multimedia library, developed the drivers of CF wireless network adapter and SD memory disk used in embedded Linux, and provided the hardware design of mobile user's terminal.
