Research On Methods Of Lossy Image Compression

With the development of Internet and wireless communications, digital images are widely used in all kinds of multimedia services. Image compression technology has been developed and becoming mature with the development of information theory and requirement of information intercommunion. The basic theory of image compression origin of Shannon's information theory in late 40s years of the 20^th century. The early source coding methods, such as Shannon coding method, Huffman coding method, Arithmetic coding method and so on, are all based on above theory. It's analyzed that there are better correlations between neighbor pixels inside source image data. Better compression ratios could be reached through transformations from space field to frequency field.
