Microorganism fermentation engineering is the foundation of bioengineering and biotechnology. Biomass is one of the most important variables in the fermentation process, and directly influences the optimization and automatic control performance of fermentation system as well as the quality and yield of the output. Thus on-line and real-time measure of biomass is indispensable.With the limitation of biological sensor, nowadays measurements are almost off-line which results in the delay and contamination of yeast tun. Also the on-line sensors based on the hardware are all restricted in application and expensive. With the development of computer technique, the method of soft-sensor is advanced greatly, and the on-line estimation of biomass based on soft-sensor makes great progress.
