With the fast development of Internet application, more and more embedded equipments need to have Internet access capabilities, which have stimulated implementation of embedded Internet protocol stacks. Embedded Internet devices can have two architectures: Gateway-based architecture and Direct-connection architecture. The later are without OS, supporting simplified TCP/IP protocol and other ralated protocol. Although the TCP/IP stack in these applications is not perfect, these equipments can work pretty well with high reliability and low cost, and has some characters of configurable and simple interface specitication. It has been becoming an important part in the development of network technology.Design and realization of the embedded TCP/IP stack without support of OS are accomplished in this paper. It uses PPP data link layer and connects to Internet by dialing Modem.In this project, PPP protocol and hardware driver, a simplified small TCP/IP stack without support of OS and interface between stack and application program are all completed, under which data can be transfered to remote email server using SMTP protocol. Intrduction and comparation of the embedded Internet are given in this paper. And study the methods of simplifying full TCP/IP stack according to the real evironment; Next, implementation of all modules is discussed in some detail, including the process of input and output. Further more, the testing of TCP/IP stack is introduced. In the end, the problems of the stack are discussed briefly and some idea to solve them are given.
