Street lamp is indispensable public facility in urban construction and is one of the important symbols of city. Conditions managed of urban illumination reflect not only construction levels but also the modernization degrees of the city. With the development of modernization constructions in our country, constructions of public facilities make good progress. Traditional control and maintenance of street lamps is not enough any more to modernization need. It is a necessity to design and realize a kind of higher autoimmunization, more credible and efficient long-distance monitoring and control system.Most of the traditional controls to street lamps are time-control and light-control, which depend on manual work. But there are street lamps that break usually present every road in a big or medium city, which bring many inconveniences to management. It is difficult to the public facility management office to know work conditions of street lamps in time in their district. Patrolling lamps at night and lines in the day has to be adopted in man patrolling. The intensity of labor is high and efficiency is low in this way. Besides making a waste of manpower and electricity, its monitoring and control effect is not ideal. The rapid development of technology of computer , communication and others brings advantage for the supervisory control system of street lamp. The condition of GSM networks improves increasingly, and its charge falls down, which can make good use of the GSM short message for the study of the remote supervisory system. This paper introduces the structure and function of supervisory control system of urban street lamp based on GSM short message.The system is composed of supervisory control center, remote terminal unit and communication subsystems. The center consists of PC, GPS module, GSM module, and etc. The central management software was programmed by VB, and make street lamp management vivid recurred to GIS. GPS module precise telling the right real time can guaranty consistent of clock to ensure simultaneity of operation. GSM module transmits data or information to realize communication with every RTU.
