Objective: To develop a multimedia orthodontic record management system by using software engineering technology database technology and rapid application development technology Methods: The operating system is Microsoft windows2000 professional, the database is Microsoft Access 2000 professional, the program language is Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise Version. According to software engineering, the development process is divided into six steps: systems planning, systems analysis , systems design systems implementation systems running and maintenance . systems update. Results: The system is accomplished, it is divided into three sections-input, query and print section. Orthodontics first visiting records further consultation records finished records and image data can be input into the system. It can also output these data to screen or traditional paper. It can be query by malocclusion classification . orthodontic case code number and patient name.Conclusion: Computerized orthodontic record management system is useful in clinical management, research and education, it is fundamental for case-based expert system. The development of computerized orthodontic record management system should adopt software engineering methods and incorporate evolution of orthodontics.
