As cultural phenomena, entertaining and communicating are both important members of social culture. Both Chinese traditional culture and western culture agree on that entertaining can be used as a tool to extend civilization and spread propaganda.. Its function of extending civilization is much more significant than spreading propaganda. As one of the carriers of men' s soul capacity, for human beings .entertaining is not only the basic requirement of human beings but also the inevitable process of becoming a mortal. As the development of modern mass media, it provides people diversiform means of entertainment. Providing entertainment has undoubtedly been considered as a vital social function of mass media.TV supports as the best carrier of entertainment. The appearance and fast spreading of TV recreational programs show that the entertaining function of TV culture has been emphasized more highly than before.However, as the recreational function of TV has been commonly recognized, its cultural taste requires to be improved.Of course, the recreational function's being achieved neither means the lack of culture, nor low-level taste. Where the shoe pinches is the value oriented and aesthetic trend implied in the recreational programs. As a kind of experience of spirit culture, even the pure entertainment has something to do with people's attitudes toward life,value and world. Without spiritual contents, it's hard for recreational programs to win permanent prosperity.Therefore, producers of Chinese TV recreational programs should consider highly the requirement of audience and circumstance of China and reject the trend of vulgarity. Meanwhile, with responsibility and sincerity, they should guide and cultivate audience and respond the social culture function of TV media. On one hand, TV recreational programs should act as the entertaining tool, on the other hand it should contain cultural elements and knowledge for artistic taste and spiritual enjoyment.
