Integration of heterogeneous database is focus in database field. Now many solutions based on Java or CORBA have been proposed. But problems appear as carrying out these solutions, such as difficulty to develop, high cost, complexity to carry out, and poor interoperability between heterogeneous database sources. Microsoft OLE DB has been applied to access database by providing uniform interfaces. It supplies us with a new idea to carry on integration of heterogeneous database.First of all, this paper analyses and researches the different distributed question of the integration of the heterogeneous database. After that, COM technology has been chosen to solve the distributed problem, by the comparison of the present distributed object's technology of three major mainstreams, according to the actual conditions of the small and medium-sized enterprises. Moreover, the paper puts forward one method based on OLE DB technology. OLE DB technology based on COM has been proposed to constructing the integration of the heterogeneous database, and on this basis, alias mechanism, scheme for parsing SQL and Global SQL has been introduced to realize the transparent access of the different data source for user. And the paper gives a scheme to set up the management server on SQL Server 2000 and puts it into effect. Fully utilize the SQL Server's support to OLE DB, and its advantage in such aspects as security, transaction. Finally, the paper illustrates how to construct an integrated system in concrete enterprise environment by given method based on OLE DB. And prove the method's feasibility in practice. At the same time, point out the method's shortage and how to improve.
