In this paper, The current research status, technical requirements of properties and applied foreground were briefly reviewed. According to the literatures, R2O-RO-Al2O3-ZrO2-SiO2 and R2O-RO-Al2O3-B2O3-ZnO-ZrO2-SiO2 system were adopted by adjusting glass composition, and the composition of glass were designed by Using cross experiment. The glass substrates samples for plasma display panels were prepared by melting, and the processing parameters during the process of preparation were obtained. And then their structure were characterized by using XRD, Thermal property, mechanical property and chemical stability were tested and studied, and the effect of composition factors on the properties of the glass were analyzed, the best composition of glass substrates for PDP were obtained. Then the electrical property and optical property of the glass of the best composition were tested, and the condition of meeting the demands of the glass substrates for PDP were discussed, which can provide certain therial reference.During the process of preparation, adding materials at the temperature of 1 450℃,then heated to 1 480 ℃ to melt for 3.5 hours (agitating by the blender) ,clarified for 0.75 hours at 1 500 ℃ and treated at the annealing temperature of 580 ℃ for 3 hours.In R2O-RO-Al2O3-ZrO2-SiO2 system, the samples were characterized vitreous. Based on cross experiment, thermal property, mechanical property and chemical stability were tested and analyzed, the influential composition affecting factors to thermal expansion coefficient is: Alkali oxides > ZrO2 > Al2O3 > Alkaline earth oxides > SiO2. the influential composition affecting factors to transition point is: Alkali oxides > ZrO2 > Al2O3 > SiO2 > Alkaline earth oxides, the influential composition affecting factors to density is: Alkaline earth oxides > ZrO2 > SiO2 > Alkali oxides > Al2O3. the influential composition affecting factors to mechanicalproperties is: Alkali oxides > Al2O3 > SiCh > ZrC>2 > Alkaline earth oxides, the influential composition affecting factors to chemical stabilities is: Alkaline earth oxides > SiO2 > Alkali oxides > AI2O3 > ZrO2.The ideal composition of glass substrates for PDP is 59.8 wt.%SiO2, 10.9 wt.% A12O3, 3.8wt.%MgO, 3.2 wt.% CaO , 7 wt.% SrO, 7 wt.% BaO , 5.5 wt.% Na2O , 4.5 wt.% K2O, 4.3 wt.% ZrO2. 0.3 wt.% TiO2? 0.3 wt.% Sb2C>3. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the ideal composition of glass substrates for PDP is 80.9x107/°C over the temperature range of 25 °C to 300 °C, transition temperature is 652.3 °C, Softening temperature is 725 °C, density is 2.739 g/cm3, Young's Modulus is 68.037 Gpa, ultimate tensile strength is 71.286 MPa, volume resistivity is 1.532xl010 m, dielectric constant is 8.16, excellent in chemical durability, as well as electrical property of common float glass, transmittance of the original and irradiated glasses by mercury lamp four 48 hours.the glass meets the demands of the glass substrates for PDP on the whole.In R2O-RO-Al2O3-B2O3-ZnO-ZrO2-SiO2 system, the samples were characterizedvitreous. Thermal expansion coefficient, transition temperature, viscosity, density, Young's Modulus, stress at break meet the demands of the glass substrates for PDP on the whole while not stable under strong acid condition, the silica network were broken down badly after etched, and it is not suitable for PDP.
