As one kind of software engineering, Management Information System (MIS) appeared during the 1950s, but owing to advanced development software and architecture which are bringing forth the new through the old, in addition, two supported techniques of MIS-database technique and computer network technique are developing rapidly, which leads new type of MIS to spring up, also the system is more complicated and the system function is more strong. So up to today MIS is still one of widely used computer application forms. Statistics indicates that the ratio of MIS to all the software engineering applications is more than 60%.This paper mainly discusses one type of MIS-the research methods and developing techniques for Delphi-based and LAN /WAN-based multi-layer application systems. By use of instance it describes the common process and the basic method during designing software engineering, such as demand analysis of system, design in detail for system including database design, and part of codes implementation. With self-feature of the system it also presents the implementation frame of the application server and the client part, dynamic configuration between the application server and the database, link between the client part and the application server.Chapter 1 demand analysis of system firstly describes the basic concept of software engineering, then respectively presents the traditional structural demand analysis and object-oriented demand analysis, also makes an analysis of the system targets and the system demands.Chapter 2 network planning and architecture of system firstly review the development history of system architecture, besides introduces several common architecture, then in detail describes the physical and logical architecture.Chapter 3 database design in detail describes the relative theory and the detail design process of database including the demand analysis, concept model design, logical structure and physical structure design. Also simply presents trend to database technique, such as data warehouse, space database and multi-media database.Chapter 4 design of peripheral branch system and serial interface the first step, in brief introduces some peripheral branch system,then presents the relative knowledge of serial port communication and visible serial port communication under the Windows environment which is applied to the system.Chapter 5 the application server implementation firstly presents the functions which are necessary to the application server, then in detail describes the construction of the application server including constructing the instance of the application server ,the configuration of dynamic link with the database and the construction of remote data module.Chapter 6 design of the client application program makes an detail analysis of the client functions and the design process including the construction of the frame and link the client part with the application server, the treatment for errors-tolerant and the balance on the load.Chapter 7 design of the authorized power module the management of login and authorized power is an important part of MIS. The chapter presents the system login and the setup of the user's functions after finishing login.Considering the facts that the applications system based on Web has been the central stream of computer and network application techniques, which has been wide application prospect in many fields. The second chapter in the paper introduces the new techniques about Web application system—relative techniques about multi-layer distributed architecture model J2EE.The paper bases itself upon the real develop system, in detail presents the develop process, besides, describes the relative theory and new techniques, put the same importance on the theory and practice, which has the reference value to whom are engaged in software engineering and computer technique.
