With the development of Internet, XML, due to its advantages, has obtained rapid development and become an important media of information transferring and sharing in the world. New needs in Electron Business, electronic book and electronic medical history, have made data more complicated and diverse, and it become more difficult that traditional DataBase System stores and manages all those different data. Nowadays, XML has been becoming the standard of above data description and exchange, and in the future, will be the main format of data storage as the successor. Serials of standards related to XML have been understood and used, in which, storage, query , integration and index of document will be the base of XML as a DataBase. Therefore it is certain that computer fields and industries will have focused XML DataBase System that is storing and managing XML data .At present, the main database companies have supported XML in their Database product, and other companies have provided Native XML DataBase System. Oracle company releases the Oracle XML DB in the latest DataBase System. Oracle XML DB is the term used to describe technology in the Oracle Database that delivers high-performance storage and retrieval of XML. Oracle XML DB is a part of Oracle DataBase. This technology extends the popular Oracle relational database, delivering all of the functionality associated with a native XML database, in addition to all of the functionality provided by the most sophisticated and complete relational database currently available.This paper analyze the main technology of Oracle XML DB, discuss how Oracle XML DB manages the contents of XML, and analyze how to design XML DataBase. Finally, a system of Computer-based Patient Record based on XML has been developed.This paper introduces the status and the significance of this research, and introduces concepts and technologies relevant to XML; then introduces the concepts and advantages of XML Database and introduces main XML Database System; based on above, the paper analyzes the characteristic of Oracle XML DB and discusses advantage and disadvantage of XML DB; in the end we implement the system of Computer-based Patient Record based on XML DB and discusses the design of XML DB.
