As the renowned historian Emery said , "The modern press system is not bestowed to a certain country, but the current form of an everlasting evolution, which is permeated with people's effort to communicate, and which spreads throughout the inhabited continents for at least 10,000 years. However, it is such a surprise to find that modern journalism and mass communication have been established first in North America, a land exploited just 400 years ago, where the first state came into form only 200 years ago, earlier than in any other area with much longer history of communication. Every breakthrough in history has been brought about by strong demand for it and the advancement of journalism and mass communication in North American is no exception. Needless to say, this pursuit for modern journalism in North America is not a physical addition of demand from each individual, but an embodiment of the spirit contained in this society and its culture. This demand is so vigorous that when resonates with the advancement of human beings, it gains historic status as it comes. This paper, from the perspective of ideology and politics, explores into the birth of this demand, its social and cultural background, and how it initiated American press as well.
