Device that used in the communication network must be available in a long time. In telecom field, availability of system must be larger than 99.999%. Which means a system must be tolerable of faults and can be maintained and upgraded without interrupt service. From the aspect of software, high availability revolves mainly around faults recovery. Any a device is hardly to satisfy the need of high availability, so standby technology is presently the main technology to improve the availability of system which means a device(mater device) is in run status while another device(slave device ) is in standby status. The slave device does not deal with service packets, what it does is just receive the message which master device sending to him. While something is wrong with the master device, the slave device can replace it quickly. Using standby technology will make service of communication network do not halt in a long time.Presently, all devices used in the core net of domestic telecom are importation, which is not only a serious economic problem, but a problem which endanger the national information safety. Based on the status, this thesis give a design of hot standby of Ethernet switch and the implementation of link aggregation; detailedly describe the key questions of hot standby and the flow of master-slave synchronization -. master-slave hot swap; several kinds of synchronization and smoothness are presented also. Which kind of synchronization and smoothness method adopted is up to module. As soon as the module of link aggregation is concerned, we can only adopt the "independent event" mode to process synchronization. In the implementation of link aggregation, introduce the function of link aggregation in brief; detailedly demonstrate the design of data structure, interface between link aggregation with other modules and subroutine.In the project, the work completed by the author is as follow:1. Coding and test of the port poll module2. Part of the summary design detail design, coding and test of the hot standby module3. Summary design, detail design, coding and test of the link aggregation module4. Integration test of system with his colleagues.
