Optical switches are key elements for modern large-capacity wide-band, fiber-house optical communication and optical signal process systems. Integrated optical waveguide device are attractive but more issues need to be solved. Several primary problems are investigated, including the theories of acousto-optic interaction excitation of acoustic field the design of acousto-optic waveguide switch and the coupling between fibre and wave guide.Several universal theories of acousto-optic interaction are investigated and compared. The theory of acousto-optic interaction was put forward in 1933 and had been improved incessantly, but all these theories were derived under specific conditions, some of them were complex and confused. The multiple plane wave scatter theory can express acousto-optic interaction explicitly.Runge-Kutta method and multiple scattering theory are applied to simulate acousto-optic interaction numerically, assuming that optical and acoustic field are plane wave. The numerical results are the foundation of the acousto-optic switch design.Excitation of acoustic field by IDT(inter-digital transducer) is explored, the diffraction of acoustic field and Bragg diffraction efficiency influenced by it are analyzed . The influence of acoustic field diffraction on Bragg bandwidth is investigated qualitatively.acousto-optic waveguide switch was designed based on the element ofgeodesic lenses and acousto-optic deflection device. The coupling between fibre and waveguide is analyzed. The software of BEAMPROP is used in simulating the coupling between Corning SMF 28?CPC fibre at mode LP01 and waveguide.
