The Research Of Metadata Management Based On CWM

It's well known that Data warehouse has been paid more attention since 1990s',manywarehouse tools has been in use and bring much benefit. Unfortunately most vendors of datawarehouse adapt different metadata management solution which result in many difficulties whenintegrating and sharing data. So people begin the research on metadata, this resulted in the CWM(Common Warehouse Metamodel) published in 2001 by OMG.The CWM was published for consolidating the strategy of metadata management, we first introduce the architecture and makeup of CWM, then analyse and comprehend the content of all packages and their relation in detail. Base on these effort, we illustrate the dependency among packages, and induce the modes of the dependency .Based the comprehension on the CWM, we also bring forward an architecture of warehouse metadata management system (WMMS). Aiming at the modeling tool in WMMS, we make a concrete design and implementation after analysying WMMS in detail. The tool can provide enough information for transformation to XML.We analyse the feasibility of re-developing of Rational Rose for warehouse modeling according to the comprehension of the modeling ability of the CWM and the natural association between CWM and UML and the comprehension of REI interface of Rational Rose, and decide the solution to customize the Rational Rose to the warehouse modeling tool by the REI interface.This modeling tool can do some verification on the model based the semantic of the CWM to ensure the correction of metadata besides graphic modeling. We bring forward validity verifying and navigability verifying and multiplicity verifying and simple semantic verifying for the warehouse model to ensure the correction of metadata according to the comprehension of associations between classes . At present, the development of modeling tool is almost completed and can work on a subset of CWM.
