The thesis is based on the study of the practical problems arising from the construction of a WAN developed by the Information Center of Shengli Oilfield.Client / Server computing architecture, has been prevailing since 1980s. This architecture separates user interface and business processing from database access and data processing, brings the heavy database operation to the background database server via remote database access, and overcomes the shortcomings of centralized computation. But nowadays this architecture is facing challenges in the area of performance and cost.In this paper, the limitations of client / sever architecture based application system is analyzed and the ways that may elevate the limitations were studied. By adopting component-based design method, the 3-layer service model put forward by foreign scholars is transferred to the platform of Intranet, making the Intranet the physical implementation of the 3-layer C/S model.The method to access background DBMS is the key problem of building practical application system on Intranet platform. By comparison of 3 different approaches, the thesis puts forward an approach with good performance and converts it into real application.
