With the development of economy, more and more domestic meters, such as energy meter, water meter and gas meter, are widely used in daily life. Various kinds of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) systems have been designed, which not only reduce the need for troublesome manual work, but also establish the technical base for providing better services and earn good economical effect and social effect.This paper introduces some common Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) systems, analyzes their respective characteristics, and then focuses on the design and implementation of remote AMR system based on S3C44B0X. Chapter 1 introduces the present development of the international AMR technology. Chapter 2 analyzes the framework of conventional AMR systems, gives a detailed description of the approach of upper-level/low-level communication and tells the advantages and disadvantages of various communication methods. Chapter 3 analyses briefly the meter-reading system introduced in this paper, pointing out that the system does well in compatibility and practicability and has potential economical and social effects. Chapter 4 introduces the S3C44b0X chip, describes the hardware design of the system according to the controller resource. Chapter 5 introduces how to design the modules of the AMRS, detaining in porting embedded real-time uC/OS to the board. The last chapter points out the development trends of AMR technology.
