This paper takes the focus on the development and design of a DSP-based PCI motion control card that is integrated into industrial PC to perform motion control task of an IC-encapsulation equipment-semi-automatic ultrasonic wire bonding machine. This TI's TMS320LF2407A-based smart card is under the control of and interacts via PCI bus to the PC system, accurately actuates 5 stepping motor driven axes of the machine to meet the requirements of wire-bonding procedure.Compared to the former approach that uses 5 separate DSP-based cards, the paper proposes a new approach that uses a single card and only one DSP to control the same 5 axes. On this card, the PCI bus interface for information exchange between the card and the PC system is composed of a PCI9052 and a dual-port RAM IDT7027S. According to an analysis of the motion procedure, the modes of the machine's motion are found: X-Y coordinated motion, Z motion, T motion, F/T motion and manual commanded motion. By careful and rational use of the limited DSP resources, the design is proved to be able to drive 5 axes and also process encoder signals. The software development work includes the drivers, DLLs , man-machine interfaces under the Windows environment, as well as the DSP's embedded software such as driving pulse generating, interpolation, position measurement, protection etc.The developed 5-axis motion control card can be used in the control system of the bonding machine. Also, the work done provides a hardware and software platform for further study on servo-system.
