Research On Applying XP In Implementing CMM

Many small-middle software enterprises are eager to implement CMM or accord with CMM standard for assuring and improving quality of development. But lots of software projects have limited time and changeful requirement, so it's hard to realize this goal. Some enterprises have realized CMM on the surface, but the quality of their production has not been improved, even development efficiency has been depressed because of this. So we need some new method and idea to help these enterprises to implement CMM for solving this issue.XP is a most successful one in all kinds of Agile Process. It's suitable for those small-middle projects that have many changeful requirements and its core practices are appropriate for implementing related key practices in CMM. So we intend to use XP method to help small-middle software enterprises to implement CMM.This paper introduced some basic information of CMM and XP firstly, and then we compared key process area of CMM with core practice of XP to improve the possibility of implementing CMM by XP. After this, we listed the differences between CMM and XP about QA and bring forward a XP-based standard software process to help implementing CMM. We applied this process in real project and proved its effect. Though this practice we got many valuable experiences and point out the direction of next step research.
