With the rapid development of the Internet technology, the construction of campus networks based on the CERNET has made a large progress, and hastened the integration of the applications within the campus networks. As the first and important step of the integration, it is prerequisite to set up a uniform database of users' information to be shared by all the applications. As a special database, directory is optimized for the higher performance of search, and is good at storing the static data which will be much more frequency of search and less frequency of update. In this article, a uniform directory of users' information and corresponding management system is set up.Beginning with the concepts of LDAP protocol, this article introduced the LDAP architecture and models: the information model, the naming model, the functional model and the security model. The next step, the article implemented the directory architectural designation and implemented the corresponding management interface taking advantage of the JNDI Beans. The Oracle system integrated two powerful directory management clients, but neither of them suits the common users because of the difficulty of acquirement and the complexity of operation. This article referred to the two clients and developed a Web-based client which realized the main function such as user authentication and list, search, add, delete, move of entry and list, modify, replace of attributes. The directory based on the Oracle Internet Directory with the Web-based management client is efficient, secure and easy to operate, can satisfy the campus application systems' requirements of uniform users' information.
