Workflow management technology is an important computer technology in enterprisebusiness process management. As the fast e-business development in Internet,traditional workflow management systems (WFMS) can't meet the requirement ofmodern business process management any more. They don't provide enough support todynamic and inter-organization business processes because lacking agility andinteroperability.Our solution is to introduce one of the latest technology--Web Services to improveWFMS Performance. Web Services based on the service-oriented architectureframework provide a suitable technical foundation for making business processesaccessible within enterprises and across enterprises. Web Services can run in thedistributed integration which is base on the Internet, Extranet and Internet and considereverything as services. Published and discovered Web Services through standardmessages will add dynamic and interoperation features to WFMS.BPEL4WS is a specification which is submitted by IBM/BEA/Microsoft. On theviewpoint of business process Web Services can integrate the service in the Web.There was a few of Workflow Engine which supported BPEL4WS Specification andit only provided by some Company. Base on the research of Workflow, The aim of ourstudy bring forward a framework and implementation of Workflow Engine whichsupports BPEL4WS Specification.The main work of the study is as follows:(1) Analyze the framework of Twister which is an open source project.(2) Using the framework of WorkManager instead of Worklist which is used by Twister. The aim is to improve the capacity of throughput and management(3) Design and implementation of system framework. The aim is to improve the agility of system.In this Paper, we first introduce workflow, Web Services and the BPEL4WS. Then webriefly analyze the framework of Twister which is an open source project. The otherparts of this paper are the framework and implementation of the workflow engine whichis based on BPEL4WS. Finally all of the works in this paper are summed up and theirfutures are prospected.
