Information hiding technique is new but booming in the field of information security. Information hiding based on digital image is one of the most important research branch.The paper analyzed and summarized the basic idea and theories of image information hiding. And human visual characteristic was anatomized in detail, on the basis of which a strategy that image was partitioned into smooth, edged and textured blocks using entropy and variable was proposed, combining all kinds of masking characteristics of the human eyes with image information hiding technique, and an improved adaptive information hiding algorithm based on image pixel-value differencing was presented, with the purpose of hiding secret information self-adaptively according to the different local feature of cover image. Experimental results showed that the improved method achieved the better imperceptibility and the more capacity of hiding information as well as the robustness of withstanding Cover-Stego attack. Accordingly, the conflict between the technical requirements for an information hiding system was alleviated. At the same time, an image scrambling algorithm based on pseudorandom number was put forward, which was so effective in pre-processing and post-processing process of an information hiding system. Also, after contrasting and analyzing several image quality evaluation measures, a concrete implementation approach based on the idea of wPSNR was proposed. Finally, an image information hiding prototype system with friendly interface was designed and implemented.
