With the fast development of modern information technology, the researches and applications of image processing, especially real-time image processing catch great interests from all over the world. In recent years, the development of DSP technology has put the theory achievement of digital signal processing field into practical application systems and pushed the progress of new theory and application. And it plays an important role in the field of image processing. At the same time, the embedded system has gotten more and more applications in the fields of network, communication and multimedia.The dissertation is based on our lab's research and applications in the field of image processing system, especially license plate automatic recognition system.Firstly, the dissertation analyzes the new development in the fields of embedded system, DSP and real-time image processing system. Then, the dissertation introduces an embedded real-time image processing system, which based on DSP, FPGA and ARM. The system integrate the high performance digital signal processor, TMS320C6X of Tl, the FPGA and the embedded processor, StrongARM of INTEL, which has high performance in network and real-time control. It provides a new solution to realizing some complex arithmetic in the field of real-time embedded system.And then, after analyzing the requirement of our project and the developing procedures of DSP and embedded system, the dissertation introduce the functions and the top-level design of the system, including the hardware system design, the software platform and tools.In the following chapters, it describes in detail about the design and implement of the hardware system, including the hardware design and implement of the basic modules of the system, the implement of the PCB and the debugging and tests of the system. It also presents some key points of the software design, especially the DSP codes programming and optimization.Finally, the dissertation summarizes the system and introduces the prospect of the system in the future.
