Polymer optical fiber (POF) possesses considerable potential market and application foreground. It is necessary to test single-mode POF and grating of POF in the laboratory. However, the current criterion of the optical instruments is based on silica fiber. So the coupling for single-mode POF and single-mode silica fiber is required. An auto-coupling system that can implement the function is introduced in this paper.In this thesis, the image-processing part of the system is expounded, including image collection, pre-processing, analysis, display and auto-coupling arithmetic. The experiment data shows that the lowest attenuation can reach 0.8dB after coupling with the system.Based on the system, the characteristic of long period grating of POF is researched, the transmission spectrum of the grating is observed, an ulterior experimental research of temperature sensing is studied, and the farther research plan is proposed.The measurement of mode field is very necessary, since it is the first step of the measurement of the diameter of mode field. In this paper, a measurement system of mode field distribution of single-mode POF is introduced, and the experiment result is analyzed.The measurement precision of water height sensor is not good enough now. A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system whose resolution can reach 0.36mm is proposed and studied experimentally.
