The Fiber channel technology is the main part of the network storage system with the advantage of high performance, long-distance connection and strong expansibility. Combine the FC technology and SCSI-3 protocol together to construct a new RAID architecture – FC RAID, which can greatly increase the I/O performance of the RAID system, thus make it more feasible to construct a RAID for tolerating double disk failure.FC RAID uses the FC card which support the FC technology as the out channel and the SCSI HBA which comply with the SCSI-3 protocol as the disk controller. This new RAID architecture can not only provide high speed interface for the host, but also can support high speed SCSI storage device.SCSI device driver is a key part of the FC RAID software architecture. A highly effective SCSI device driver can apparently improve the performance of the RAID. Developing SCSI device driver need further research on the working flow, developing platform and the SCSI protocol. Based on the above research, a multi-thread technology, supported by SCSI protocol, is presented, thus can improve the parallel processing of the RAID. The test of the result show that the multi thread technology can effectively improve the transmit speed of the RAID and reduce the I/O response time. The double disks fault tolerant RAID employs FC technology and EVENODD code. This type of RAID can effectively recover the lost data even if double disk fail, therefore can meet the demand of high reliability of the user with correspondingly lower performance lost.
