Research On Hierarchical Information Visualization Based On Hyperbolic Space

With the increasing information glut and the advances in data access on digital networks, the question on how to find specific information leads to information visualization as one of the hottest topics of significant development and research. Information visualization is a computer-aided visual presentation of abstract information spaces and structures which aims to optimize the use of our perceptual and visual-thinking ability in dealing with them. Information visualization draws on ideas from several intellectual traditions, including computer graphics, human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, graphic design, etc.Hierarchical data, the most prevalent structure, is very diverse and is encountered in many forms. The traditional presentation of hierarchies usually uses tree models where child nodes are positioned under their parents in wedge-like formations. Because tree models are well understood, they are easy for people to grasp. However when the hierarchical structure is huge, representing trees in this manner will confuse the structure, which is the main problem of hierarchical information visualization.In this dissertation, the main problems, technologies of hierarchical information visualization are discussed. The research focuses on how to visualize hierarchical information using hyperbolic space. Besides, a development environment of hierarchical information visualization is designed and realized in the dissertation. The main research includes the following three parts:First of all, after analyzing and researching into the technologies and methods of hierarchical information visualization, the paper adopts the method based on the hyperbolic space to resolve the main problem in the field.Secondly, according to the character of hierarchical information, an easily expanded system which is based on the hyperbolic space to visualize is designed in the paper.Finally, the paper points out that it is imperative to use hierarchical information visualization in e-government. Besides, by using the system in Hang Zhou government, the feasibility and the validity of the system are justified.
