Hybrid systems (HS) consist of a mixture of a continuous time system and a discrete event system that influence each other's behavior. There are a lot of hybrid processes in chemical industry, manufacturing and metallurgy field. Hybrid Petri nets (HPN) is one of main modeling method for the hybrid systems. Based on the hybrid Petri nets, the method of modeling, simulating and analyzing the hybrid systems is discussed in this paper. As an example, an industrial chemical solvent recovering process is illustrated, and a detail modeling and simulating approach is presented.First the existing modeling methods for HS based on HPN are discussed. A simulating method under Matlab environment for a certain of HPN is introduced. Then the author defines a new kind of HPN, named hybrid State Petri nets. So simulating and analyzing HS can be carried out in a uniform Petri net model. Also the simulating algorithm for the model is given and a switch system verified its validity. At last an industrial chemical solvent recovering process is modeled and simulated by the method mentioned above. According to the simulating result, control rule is concluded. The study shows that the hybrid state Petri nets model provides a new area for modeling the hybrid systems. To model, analyze and verify the HS in a uniform Petri nets model is possible. It has the general property in the chemical industry and has a wide prospect in the future.
