With the increase of modern society's dependence on communication, survivability of optical network has become a crucial problem. Optical layer self-healing features in its fast protection rate, high reliability, low cost and transparent. However, survivable technique in optical layer of all-optical networks is different from those of SDH because of the different object handled by the two layers. A lot of problem of survivability in optical layer need to be solved. The cost-effective survivable scheme on optical layer and key techniques are the topics in this thesis. First of all, an analysis of present research situation is given in this thesis. Secondly, the concept of optical communication network survivability ,the layer structure of this network and survivability on circuit layer are discribed. Survivability on optical layer and its characters, some key techniques are discussed with a lot of emphasis,in which a kind of RWA ILP and two kinds of heuristic methods are presented with their contents and performances. Then an OMS protection scheme on optical layer is designed and realized in chapter 3. Aimed to deal with the most common communication failure,fiber rupture,a protection scheme is given, describing the technical scheme, realization of key technologies of optical layer protection, hardware, software, communication protocols and experimental result. The result shows the system is safe and efficient to the protection of the transport network.
