| Instant Messaging (IM) is a new application based on Internet. Chating is the basic function of IM, other functions such as video chating, SMS are also integrated in IM. IM creates a new communication for hunman.Based on Jabber protocal and Jabber system, the principle and technology for realizing IM system, as well as the design and analysis for IM are discussed detailedly in this article. The IM system has been realized successfully and passed the performance testing.Using the expansibility of Jabber protocol, the Jabber protocol has been extended for implementing the service of video chating and SMS which are not included in origin Jabber system.
