ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is an enterprise synthetic management information system developed in the 1990s. It shows the direction and tendency of enterprise management in the future. Many entyprises in the world, which have put the ERP system in practice successfully, have gained high profits in economy and management, and powerful capacity for competition. The UML (Unified Modeling Language) is an industry-standard language making software blueprint, and it is a highly effective tool in specifying, designing, constructing, visulizing and documenting software systems. J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) is an architecture which is used to simplify the complications of development, deployment and management of enterprise solutions by using Java 2 platform. J2EE architecture supplies a middle-tier integrated framework in order to meet the needs of a little cost but high availability, high reliability and extensibility.Based on the background theories and technologies mentioned above, an ERP system is developed in this dissertation according to the RUP (Rational Unified Process). The dissertation discusses in detail the whole developing process from analysis, design to implementation of ERP system, at the same time, it introduces each functional module, MVC (Model-View-Controller) design pattern, database design and the interface of the ERP system. The whole development process incarnates the characteristics of RUP, such as case-driven, focus on architecture and increment-iteration. The ERP system is modeled by using Rational Rose, deployed and implemented on the J2EE server BEA Weblogic 8.1.Based on RUP and modeling with UML have become a trend in object-oriented analysis and design. J2EE presents a simplier and unified platform which is used to develop multi-tier enterprise application. Through the study of these technologies, a real ERP system has been developed, which will be valuable to develop enterprise application. And the author has been convinced, through the preliminary development practice, that these technologies must be a best choice for developing an ERP system.
