While the wireless networks gain in popularity, various wireless access technologies emerged, which provides the telecom carriers with more flexibility. The narrow band and broad band wireless technologies for real-time data, voice and image transmission are very competitive with respect to coverage range, mobility and cost.The paper set out to solve the communication problem in China's rural areas. It introduced the definition of wireless access, standard interfaces and various access modes based on China Telecom and requirements of the rural communication networks. In accordance with the current state governing the management of frequencies, research reveals that the wireless access at 450 MHz is the most reasonable solution widely used. The following conclusions have been made base on this research/the research focus on the following aspects:1 . The operating frequency of the 450MHz wireless access technology is 460.5 -462.0 at central stations and 450.5 - 452.0MHz at terminals. It is employed in the FDD rural wireless access networks using FDMA, with a larger coverage area. The system can be easily connected with the switches, providing various services such as voice, facsimile, and data transmission. Channels are dynamically distributed using the control signaling. MSK modulated digital common signal is used as air signal, characterized by its fast connecting.2 . Analyzed the performance, system design, applications and the system hardware/software of the typical 450MHz wireless access networks. The working principles, performance parameters, interfaces and system configurations for the base station and its controllers are discussed in details.3 . Designed the local wireless access network for Herbin rural areas using the 450MHz wireless access technologies. Analyzed the coverage range, network infrastructure, system capacity of the wireless access network. Researches were accomplished regarding the prediction of the antenna transmission range, frequency planning etc. Summarized the characteristics of the 450MHz wirelessaccess network. Finally, analyzation on system testing data and some suggestions on the wireless access network in rural areas are given.
