Embedded system design especial the application of Internet has become an emphasis with the fast development of information technology. It seems that a new age called post-PC era is incoming. In this thesis, I have discussed several aspects of embedded system design in detail; moreover, I put forward a solution of IP camera design.This thesis is composed of four chapters:The first, I describe the prospect of embedded system design and what I have done for this thesis. The second, it is a description of embedded system design which comprises of the concept of embedded system, embedded MCU and real-time embedded operating system, furthermore, it discuss the method that a perfect design should comply with.The third, it put forward a solution of IP camera and its specifications.The fourth, this chapter is the emphasis of the thesis. In this chapter it discusses the implementation of IP camera from two parts, hardware design and software design. In detail the hardware design comprises of the MCU subsystem design and the interface of CMOS color image sensor, dual-port RAM and DSP. Software includes three parts: the JPEG image compression with DSP, the Sockets communication between VxWorks and PC, and the replay of image on PC.
