Investigation And Design Of The Time Adjust Card Based On PCI Bus

It is more and more significant to use devices and LOC in existence to transmit information. People begin to realize the importance of transmitting time signals and other information in the vertical blanking interval of television signal. This transmission provides people efficient information and standard time, and serves manufacture and scientific research.Bus is a public channel which provides data,address and control command for CPU and other devices in the computer. PCI bus has: 33.3MHz CLK; 32-bit data bus; 266MB/s maximum data transfer. These features make it the most popular bus standard among various buses in existence.The time adjust card based on PCI bus is designed to fulfill the request of TV stations. Because TV stations work for so many families, they need a precise,reliable and unitive time system to provides exact time standard to all kinds of technical operations.This paper introduces the design process of this card from the aspects of hardware design,debugging and device driver design. At the beginning of the paper, the basic configuration,features,signal definitions and basic operation of PCI bus are detailed discussed. The paper also explains every parts of the hardware of the time adjust card in details. The functions of those main chips used in the design are introduced specially. Method of designing PCI bus device driver is also introduced in the paper. At the last part of the paper, the debugging of the system and some experiences of the author are mentioned.Cautious debugging and practical use prove this card can fulfill the task of adjusting the time system of the computer exactly. The design has reached the prospective purpose.
