Distributed Technology (DT) can be dated back to the middle of 1980s when distributed system was mostly built with Client/Server architecture. However, significant changes have happened to this architecture since the end of 1990s: The border of Client and Server is vanishing day by day, and Multi-Tier distributed system is popularizing over time; Distribution has been one of the most important characteristics of network application, and the notion of distribution has generally migrated from tightly coupled, geographically close, homogeneous machines to more loosely coupled, geographically remote, heterogeneous machines. At the same time, object-oriented technology has been the chief one of software development. Then Distributed Object Technology (DOT) carved its position as the main technology to build large and complicated systems. In this paper, theories about data transfer technique in distributed system are discussed. First, Distributed Object Technology and the Common Object Request Broker Architecture are analyzed because they are the bases of my research work. Second, the performance of the data transfer mechanism of CORBA is analyzed and it leads to the Data Service mode which serves for data transfer server. Its design and implementation are particular discussed. Third, the implemented Real-time Data Service is tested to find if the performance is acceptable. Also, the experiment indicates which is most efficient among the four modes of data transfer in the Event Service of CORBA. In the end, the research which future research fields are proposed is summarized.
