Array Signal Processing techniques are widely applied to the fields of Radar,Communication, Navigation, Seismology, Sonar etc, which mainly consist of two parts, the adaptive beamforming and signal parameter estimation techniques. Both issues arestudied and some new methods are proposed in this thesis. Robustness is the study focusof adaptive beamforming techniques because of the inevitable array imperfections inpractice. A robust adaptive beamformer based on the structure of the generalizedsidelobe canceller (GSC) is proposed in this thesis. The adaptive beamformingtechniques are applied to the problem of pattern synthesis for arbitrary arrays and a newpattern synthesis method is devised to overcome some problems in the former synthesismethods. In the section of parameter estimation, a special antenna array configuration, elliptical array, is studied, and a 2-D direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm isproposed, which extends the phase-mode technique from circular array to elliptical array. The problem of reducing the numerous computation load for spectrum search inconventional MUSIC algorithm is also considered, and a random spectrum peak searchmethod via MH sampler is presented, which largely reduces the computation load.
