Some indexes on preventive veterinary medicine and its related disciplines were analyzed to explore their relations with IF. It would be of benefit to the researchers in this field to deliver their articles and to the periodicals-makers to improve IF of their periodicals.Ten periodicals were categorized into four groups: << Journal of Microbiology> and << Journal of Virology> as the first group, < ,< and< as the second, < and < as the third, <, < and < as the fourth. Some indexes, including times of citation from 2000 to 2002 , IF from 1998 to 2002 , number of articles published , publishing period , ratio of funded papers , total numbers of references , mean reference rate and ratio between Chinese and foreign reference, were analyzed respectively. And each of them, comparisons was made among different disciplines or different issues of the same periodical using significance test. By statistical analysis, the conformability of change tendency in these indexes with that in IF could be researched.Based on 306 issues of ten periodicals, following results were concluded: Number of articles published was 6228. Total publishing period was 77625 months. Number of papers funded by province and ministry was 3489 covering 56.02%. Ratio of papers sponsored by foundation was 0.560. Total number of reference cited was 63490 with 20868 in Chinese, covering 32.87% and 42622 in foreign, covering 67.13%. The mean reference rate was 10.194 per paper.Fairly greater distinctions among IF of different periodicals existed. By groups, first group ranked first, next the third group, then the second and finally the fourth. By periodicals and their IF, the turn was as the follows: <,<< Chinese Journal of Fishery >,<< Journal of Microbiology >,<, <,<,<,<< Chinese Journal of Veterinary Science >,< and <.In the aspect of number of articles published, < was higher than<< Journal of Virology > (JP<0.01). { Chinese Journal of Fishery Science ) was higher than <( P>.05), but they were on the contrary in IF aspect. It was found that there was a negative association between number of articles published and IF (r = - 0.570 /><0.05 ) .Concerned with IF and publishing period, no significant association was found though there was aweak correlation ( r = 0.406, P>0.05 ) . Specifically, 3 in 8 pairs of periodicals were consistent in both indexes; group 1 and group 3 were longer in publishing period and higher in IF than group 2 and group 4. Publishing period of 10 periodicals was in a drop tendency and periodicals with higher IF had longer publishing period.By the analysis of ratio of funded paper and IF, it was found two indexes were in significant association with each other (r = 0.614 P<0.05) . Except two periodicals in group 1, the index relatives in the others conformed to this trend .There was a very significant association (r = 0.710 P<0.01 )between mean reference rate and IF, with 4 in 8 pairs of periodicals consistent, 6 kinds of periodicals same or similar and 2 partially similar. Mean reference rate in group 1 and group 3 were greater, with (Journal of Virology) the greatest and ( Journal of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Medicine } the smallest. In case of two indexes ratio of Chinese and foreign reference and IF, their association was weak (r - - 0.407 P>0.05) . Among all the periodicals, 7 periodicals decrease in ration of Chinese and foreign references but increase in IF, especially { Chinese Journal of Fishery Sci...
