The embedded operating system is the core and the functional representation of the embedded system. It controls all the resources of the system and offers the platform for an application. There are many excellent characters with Linux OS (operating system), such as the free code, steady and effective kernel. So, the research on the embedded OS based on Linux is cheaper, more effective and marketable. As a result, this paper analyses the architecture of Linux kernel deeply, brings forward some measures of reconstructions for Linux, takes much emphases on the algorithms about improving the real-timing character and introduces the way on compiling the new kernel. The Linux kernel possesses the rich software resources, mature functions, steady working behavior. This paper clarifies the modules that make up the kernel, especially analyses the memory management module and the process management module, introduces the virtue file system module, the inter process communication module and the network module. So we have the deep theory foundation to reconstruct the kernel.Improving the real-time of Linux is the key of its application to the embedded system. So, this paper does much work on it. According to different commands and situations, this paper brings up some measures to improve the Linux real-time. What's more, through implementing and comparing various algorithms, this paper draws a conclusion on the feasibility about the task schedule and discusses the design of a new intelligent scheduler. At last, this paper introduces the way of compiling and upgrading the kernel, look forward to the study on the embedded OS based on Linux. This paper will accelerate the speed of the study on the embedded OS and boost the research on the real-time reconstruction to some extent.
