With the raising of train's speed and the need of new type generator's application, this paper discusses a set of KP-3 type railway passenger train's generator control system on basis of SCM—80C196. This control system includes two parts: rectifier cubicle and control box. Rectifier cubicle adopts three-phase bridge rectifier circuit, which is constituted of diodes. Rectifier cubicle has some advantages, such as small volume, simple construction, good insulation effect and so on. It is also easy to install and repair. Control box use 80C196 single chip microcomputer as control core, use IGBT as main control component, use output voltage, output current and charging current as feedback variables. All these parts make up closed-loop control system. It control generator's excitation current by adjusting single chip microcomputer's PWM output, so as to stabilize generator's output voltage, output current and limit charge.In April 2002, KP-3 type passenger train's generator control system passed test of Railroad Ministry Product Quality Supervision Test Center's Vehicle Test Station. And it is in lead on technical property. At present, the first period products of this system have been used in 5 passenger trains of Shenyang Railroad Bureau.
