Of all the industries correlated with ocean work, navigation, mining detection, hydrographic measurement and cable engineering, the most frequently used device is the electric winch. Especially in cable industry, thousands of meters of cable need to be wrapped on a winch every time after being draught into pre-buried underground pipeline. Therefore, the functions of a winch are required to measure and control the following parameters: cable length, cable speed, tensile force, etc.In this paper, we make the design of controller for traction engine driven by cable winch to solve the problem of unsafely and unreliability. When we develop a new traction engine, some classic and time-experienced theory or thought is still tenable. With the development of new technique, especially the development and application of semi-conductor module and sensor technique, new control unit structures will appear. When the new control unit structures are to be designed, we must make overall consideration of restricted conditions to select the best scheme to meet the requirement of optimization, suitability and economics.This thesis fully takes all environmental conditions into account and combines practical applications of traction engines. With a large quantity of experience, we adopt photoelectric encoder, discrimination circuit and anti-jamming technique for software and hardware measuring cable length and speed with accuracy of ±0.2%FS. The pressure transmitter made from Si-diffused pressure sensor and special temperature-compensated chip, MAX1457, can achieve ±0.3%FS in accuracy with the conjunctive work of anti-jamming technique andreliability technique.The design of controller for traction engine will end the history in which there is vacant in electronic control for traction engine driven by cable winch. This design not only develops a new technique, but also solves the problem of high price for imported traction engines. While the performance is just the same, the price is half of that imported one. The design for controlleralso provides cable winch a successful guaranty for high performance and low cost in other applications.
