During the implement of CIMS in enterprises, it always meets the problems of long cycle, low security and poor software reuse. The reason is not only the problem of implement method and shortcomings of the system, but also the problem of the integration of the different application systems in the enterprise which refer to the different enterprise departments such as the designing department, the manufacturing department and management division. It's often the case that those application systems use independent database management systems. How to share and transfer the application information between different systems is the major problem that will be dealt with in this thesis. In the thesis, a DCOM based information integration approach between heterogeneous applications is put forward. The thesis introduces the current information integration models and summarizes the related technologies of the applications integration model including Object Orient, Software Reuse, Distributed Object. Especially, the Thesis outlines the structures and pro and con of the CORBA, DCOM and JavaBean and it also summarizes the future development of distributed object technology. At present two traditional means to integrate applications are widely used. The first is to transport data through intermediate files. The second is to access the database of a heterogeneous application directly. On the basis of analyzing the advantage and disadvantage of traditional methods, the paper proposes a DCOMbased integration approach of distributed applications and its prototype system --GlueWare. The thesis in-depth explains the designing considerations and the implementation method of the GlueWare interface software. GlueWare is a middle ware designed for application integration in CIMS. It provides functional interfaces for applications through ActiveX controls and an ActiveX component (or OLE server). An application invokes the server component through controls embedded into the client interface of the application. The Server works as a broker for the requestor to access the local databases of the destination applications. The thesis provides thewizard interface --GlueWareXWizard which is used to customize the ActiveXcontrol .The GlueWareXwizard improves the speed of the implement of the GlueWare system .The thesis brings out two examples that the GlueWare software is used to integrated the actual applications, one is between the PDM and LM-MRPII system, the other is between the Oracle system and Forth-Shift software system ,the results are satisfactory . Finally, a prospective view of applying the DCOM based integration approach and usage of the universal linker component in CIMS implementations is brought out.
